BENJAMIN MOUKANDJO RETIRES FROM INTERNATIONAL FOOTBALL FOLLOWING HIS DISAGREEMENT WITH COMMENTS MADE BY THE NEW COACH

Benjamin Moukandjo, the 29 year old football player, who captained the Indomitable Lions during the African Cup of Nations announced his retirement from International Football, following comments made by the new coach, Clarence Seedorf. Moukandjo, who currently plays for Beijing Renhe in China, initially butted heads with the coach once he heard of his omission from the list of players released by Seedorf for the first squad game against Comoros. Clarence Seedorf justified his omission by saying that “good young players don't compete in China or in Asia”. It is important to note that Christian Bassogog, who was also instrumental in bringing the 5th Nations’ Cup home, was also omitted from the list.

According to Moukandjo, the comments made by the new coach encouraged him to retire from International football.

"I found the recent comments by Mr Clarence Seedorf very brash and unfair. Unfair because despite being the team captain, I never received a call from the coach to inform me about his decision," Moukandjo said in a press release on Saturday night.

Moukandjo also disagreed with Seedorf’s comments about the Chinese league. He responded by saying that the assessment of a player should be determined on the pitch before decisions about who to include were made.

He went on to thank his teammates, the organization, and the country for all they had done for him. He was gracious enough to wish them good tidings.

In response to the reports, Seedorf clarified that the players based in China or Asia could still play for the country, but were not going to be prioritized over those who play in Europe or more established leagues.
