LIMBE DEEP SEA PORT: HOPES ARE RAISED AFTER THE VISIT OF THE PORTS AUTHORITY'S CEO.

The visit to Limbe and the South West by the new Director General of the National Ports Authority, Dr. Louis Eboupeke, and her deputy, Mrs. Pamela Ayuketah, aroused hopes in Limbe and the South West.

The tour, nominally a working one, left few doubts that the Limbe deep seaport project is at least proceeding in the right direction. Following the death of long-serving GM Josue Youmba, the newly appointed couple visited Limbe City Council, SONARA, Chantier Naval, but most notably Tiko port, Bota wharf, and Idenau, as well as the location of the major deep seaport at Ngeme in Limbe II subdivision.

The director general was concerned about the outdated equipment at Tiko, Bota, and Idenau, which were intended to be Limbe Deep seaport ports where smaller ships could dock.

At the Ngeme location, which was thought to have the deepest depth, there was a concerning problem of unlawful possession of the property, with showy buildings strewn around. According to reliable sources, people who have inhabited any piece of land on the site risk losing everything without recompense.

Those in Ngeme village, where the port is anticipated to expand, may be paid.

During his visit to the Limbe City Council, the GM said that the LCC is a key player in bringing about the long-awaited Limbe Deep Seaport, which was established by a presidential decree issued in May 2020 by the President of the Republic, H.E Paul BIYA.

Mr. Kinge Thompson Molonge, Secretary General of the NPA, welcomed the NPA chief on behalf of the Lord City Mayor.

The LCC SG expressed gratitude to his institution for hosting an honorable visitor of the quality of the NPA Director General, who was coming for the first time.

During the cordial interaction, Dr. Loius Eboupeke praised the LCC's significant developmental advances over the years and praised the excellent partnership that exists between the National Ports Authority and the Limbe City Council.

He also expressed his hope to see the two buildings eventually welcome the much-anticipated Limbe Deep Seaport, which has been a long-held ambition of the people of Limbe and the South West area in general since the country's inception.

Mr. Kinge Thompson promised the NPA chairman that the Limbe City Council and the whole community would continue to lobby the state for the fast inauguration of the Limbe Deep Seaport, which will provide a significant boost to the national economy.

The brief but rich exchange ended with the LCC SG wishing Dr. Loius Eboupeke courage and success in handling the herculean tasks of the National Ports Authority, which include ensuring the National Ports Authority's development planning and monitoring port security and safety standards in accordance with international regulations.
